Forbidden Gallery
Level One

The Forbidden Gallery asks a provocative question: when does desire on the page or canvas become too much for the world to handle?

Here, “forbidden” means the art that censors blushed at, publishers whispered about, and institutions tried to suppress—the images, books, photographs, and stories deemed too explicit, too unconventional, too kinky, or simply too honest about pleasure to be safely released into the world.

Featuring original artwork, rare publications, historical collectibles, provocative cultural artifacts, and immersive displays, this permanent exhibition explores how censorship has shaped erotic expression while celebrating creativity and freedom throughout history.

Once banned, buried, or forced underground, many of these works survived only because artists, collectors, and historians refused to let them disappear. Today they stand in the open as a testament to creative courage and freedom of expression—inviting you to linger, look closer, and decide for yourself why anyone ever tried to keep them hidden.

Rare & Historic Works Discover original publications, artwork, photographs, collectibles, and cultural artifacts once considered too controversial to openly display.
Freedom of Expression Explore how censorship, morality, politics, and changing social values have shaped what societies choose to celebrate—or suppress.
Thought Provoking Each work invites curiosity, conversation, and a deeper understanding of sexuality through art, history, and cultural expression.

After all, the most forbidden things are not always on the walls—they are the thoughts you leave with.

Forbidden Gallery Level Two

Level Two of the Forbidden Gallery invites you into the darkest corridors of human behavior—spaces where desire, power, obsession, and identity distort into forms that society deems unthinkable.

Here, one can learn about the importance of serial killer art and how understanding their visual expression can help us catch these violent criminals.

See one of the only known pieces of art created by the infamous necrophiliac, Karen Greenlee and take a journey into her mind and past.

Visit our wall focusing on female grooming and manipulation which highlights an often overlooked form of abuse, revealing how some women have used trust, emotional leverage, and authority roles to exploit minors.

The gallery’s exploration culminates with the von Hagens body pieces, which blur the boundary between scientific dissection and artistic presentation. These plastinated forms expose the literal inner workings of the human body while asking viewers to confront complex ethical questions: When does the body become an object? How does death transform the meaning of flesh, intimacy, or consent? Why is the human form—living or deceased—so central to our understanding of desire, fear, and transgression?

Together, these installations create a charged environment where guests can consider an uncomfortable truth about humanity: the same mind capable of love, pleasure, and intimacy is also capable of fixation, violence, and taboo.

Beauty Is Fierce. Desire Is Divine.

From ethereal warriors to forbidden lovers, Royo's imagery invites you into worlds where beauty is fierce, desire is divine, and imagination knows no shame.

Sex & The
Weimar Republic

Immerse yourself in the intoxicating world of 1920s Germany, where liberation, decadence, and artistic rebellion collided in the smoky glow of the Weimar Republic.

1920s Germany
Sex and the Weimar Republic exhibition

A Crucible of Erotic Revolution

Wedged between war and dictatorship, the Weimar era became one of the most sexually expressive periods in modern history. Sensual, subversive, and startlingly modern, this exhibit reveals how a society on the brink became a crucible of erotic revolution.

Its cabarets, queer spaces, artists, performers, and radical thinkers challenged convention and created an electric culture of liberation, experimentation, and possibility.

Liberation & Decadence Discover a society where nightlife, fashion, performance, and sexual expression flourished in bold new ways.
Artistic Rebellion Explore how artists and thinkers pushed against censorship, social convention, and traditional ideas of identity.
Freedom Under Threat See how the same spaces and voices that defined Weimar culture later became targets of persecution and violence.

But this freedom was fragile. As the Nazis rose to power, the cabarets, queer spaces, and radical thinkers that defined Weimar’s electric nightlife became targets of censorship, persecution, and violence. Books were burned, bodies were policed, and an era that celebrated pleasure and possibility was crushed under a regime obsessed with control.

At the Erotic Heritage Museum, this gallery does not end with the glow of Weimar—it leads you into the shadows of what came next. Sometimes, the most provocative history is not only the moment when everything blooms, but the moment when it is brutally forced to stop.
